This restaurant is out of place in LaGrande. Unless you are of good taste you will not understand this statement.

This is very good cuisine for this area. I did not expected such good food when I visited the first time. Who would expect to find this in a book store. This chef truly understands flavor. The menu is small and changes weekly but is appropriate. They also offer vegan & gluten-free dishes.

This restaurant deserves and is getting a five star internet rating.

The day was sunny and the scones were Hazelnut Cranberry and the little BELLA that could began its journey in the McCord house in Historic Baker City.

The date was May 14th, 1997. Well celebrate 18 years this year!

Days went by, the little store grew and found a new home in the historic Osborn Building on Main Street.

In 2010, BELLA opened a second location in La Grande, OR on April 1st.

Dora's Garden - Local Organic Produce

Our 50-acre irrigated field is currently planted with perennial alfalfa which is harvested for hay. Near the center of the field is a seasonal wet spot (dimensions vary with year) where the water table approaches ground surface. The area is too moist for alfalfa. We plan to plant edible blue Camas Root in our seasonal wet spot.

Beginning in 2012 our 50-acre field will be subdivided into five sections of approximately 10 acres each. Each year one section will be taken out of alfalfa production, planted with a grain crop such as wheat or barley, then planted with varied combinations of the following cover crops: medic, sweet clover, rye, barley, sorghum-sudangrass hybrid, wheat and mustard. With the exception of the harvested alfalfa hay and partial harvest of the first grain crop, the cut vegetative matter will be left on the ground to compost. After two years alfalfa will be broadcast sown again. The complete rotation will require five years. In each year after the first year, 30 acres will be in alfalfa hay production, 10 acres will be in a grain crop followed by cover crop and 10 acres will be in sequential mixed cover crops. All crops will be broadcast sown with compost.

The 100' x 200' (approximately 0.5 acre) garden will not be tilled again. There are 50 permanent rows. The first five rows are planted with perennials: plums, catnip, asparagus, raspberries, and perennial herbs. Rows 6-50, each 12" wide with 3' between rows, are planted with rotated annuals. New Zealand White Clover is planted between the rows. The rows are first hand-dug to a depth of 15", filled with soil combined with alfalfa hay and compost, topped with compost, a soaker hose and a final covering of alfalfa hay. In subsequent years, the rows are top dressed with compost and seeds are planted into the compost, topped with soaker hose and alfalfa hay mulch. Cropping, cover cropping and mulching is continual, i.e. soil is never bare.

Cove Tavern & Steak House

This is supposedly the only steakhouse in Cove and the surrounding towns/cities for a good 20 something miles.Anyway, my family and I got a table as my sister excitedly had to inform us, "The steak here is soooo good and the burgers are so big you'll never finish it so we should all split with each other!" So I nodded her my, "Oh wow... Yeah?" and started to look over the one page one sided menu... "Hmm..." I thought, "These prices are pretty good and I'm hungry... Eh I can order more if it's not enough."

So my sister and I ordered a steak (that came with a salad and baked potato on the side) to split. My dad has a mean appetite so he ordered a burger for himself and my aunt had to get a burger for herself cause she couldn't split with my dad since he always eats all his food.

When the food came out all our jaws dropped cause the steak took up the entire dinner plate and the burgers were piled on so high that it was the size of a human head! My dad was so shocked that he asked for a to go box so he could split with my aunt. Then it was my turn. I sliced into my medium rare steak and the medium rareness of it was just right! The flavor was so perfect that the thought of steak sauce didn't even cross my mind until I was done! Wow! It was the best steak I EVER had!

Serious! I don't think I'll ever find steak that tastes so good!

Nature's Pantry Natural Foods

History:

Dennis and Linda Clayville opened Nature's Pantry on Adams Avenue in La Grande as a small 750 sq. ft. store in July of 1986.   In May of 1988 it was moved to the current location and has expanded an additional 3 times.  It's now 7500 sq. ft. and includes a bigger organic produce department, a larger bulk food section, expanded chilled and frozen foods.   It is also the home of the Juice Tree, a juice and smoothie bar.  Nature's Pantry is the largest health and natural food store in Eastern Oregon.  They pride themselves in carrying fresh, organic, local and hard to find organic, natural foods and supplements.  There also is a great selection of health and beauty aids, health and fitness books, herbs, spices and teas.

The store has a great team of 10 full time and 5 part time employees, including an on staff nutritionist.  Some of the employees have been part of the team for 20+ years.  We believe in education and encourage our employees and customers to continue to educate themselves in health and nutrition.   The store offers cooking classes and health seminars throughout the year to help attain this goal.

Our Mission statement:

Helping our customers  find and maintain vibrant health through proper nutrition, high quality supplementation and healthy lifestyles.

Excellent all the way around!. Showed up with 18 people...the waitress hustled and got us all served with separate checks for all. The food was fresh, much homemade and awesome. My BBQ burger was to die for. We let her know we would be returning the next morning at 7am. We returned and our tables were preset and all ready for us. The homemade wheat toast is a must. Loved my Sausage Scramble. If you are ever passing through North Powder, you must eat here. All the truckers do.

Hought's 24 Flavors

My boyfriend and I love this place! After our favorite date-night Restaurant closed down, we decided to give Hought's a try. As college students, what really defines a great eat-out joint is a mixture of cheap and delicious.

Hought's has a huge menu and a lot of customizable options for burgers. The choices were overwhelming at first but we have made it a challenge to try every item on the menu.

The first time we went to Hought's it was our one-year anniversary and we were not disappointed. We were able to get two burger meals w/fries, a premium large mixed-drink, side of onion rings, and two-scoop ice-cream cones (each) for under $25 with tip! Plus, even though we ate a lot, we didn't have that achey feeling in our stomachs afterward. We have come to think that this is because the food is all local and non-greasy. We saw our burgers taken out of the refrigerator and fried on the stove; brings new meaning to fresh never frozen.

The place has a nostalgic feel to it and a history rich with small business success! I love how all of the food is listed as local and organic, especially since outside date night, I try not to eat non-GMO and organic food as much as possible. I love that I don't have to destroy my digestive system for a night out.

All and all, I can say that Hought's has far surpassed our former favorite restaurant. We get a lot more food for about the same price as the old restaurant and we have more choices. We also noticed that the owner was present and cooking food while we were there! It's just an awesome place that is definitely within budget.
